Fun, flirty and feminine; tiered ruffles are a must-wear for spring and summer. Whether silky or knitted, two tiers or more, these versatile flirty frocks provide a plethora of styling options. Pair with cut off or rolled denim shorts, a denim mini skirt or your best jeans. You can let the tiers float freely or tame them by belting the waist. Take a style que from Just Cavalli and go bare-legged or from Moschino and slide tights or leggings underneath. Keep it simple and let the ruffled layers be your accessory or add bold, chunky pieces like Maurizio Pecoraro. And everything from platforms to flats to chic booties will fashionably complete your look.
If, after viewing collections thus far, you were left wondering where you'll find your "street gear", then you can rest fulfilled with Miss Sixty. While we almost felt like it was a bit 'springy' for a fall collection we were eventually reassured with several cute and super shiny puffers. Prints were a big theme on pants, dresses, tops and tees in what appeared to be magazine pages on some. And of course the denim label supplied a range of washes for jeans and jumpers including the 80s-inspired acid-wash.
Aside from the unappealing distraction of the models' black lips, an obvious emulation of YSL 08, we loved Rachel Roy's well cut and comfortly chic collection. Black and gray were balanced out by the soft colors of blush, pale yellow and slate blue which came in column dresses, flannel suits, wool jackets, cigarette pants and peplum bustiers. The cut-out trend was visible in several of the slim body conscious dresses making this collection a nice departure from her usual puffs and poufs.
Preen's vision of Fall 2009 has a plethora of legs and large houndstooth printed frocks in a color palette which consited mainly of white, black and gray. We're all for showing off our gams, but it's not as much fun in cooler weather, thankfully, Thornton and Bregazzi completed some of the looks with tights, thigh-high suede boots and our favorite - a pair of black leather harem pants with zipper detailing at the ankle. There were also mongolian lamb sweaters and jackets and an assortment of cut-outs -- one of fall's big trends.
style is so personal . . . it is a visual extension of thoughts, feelings and moods, which is why it can change ever so subtly or in the most grandeur fashion and, when it is genuine, can never truly be wrong.
